Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD)

For the public health and the environment, KORAD was established to manage the radioactive waste, heavily generated from reactor operation, in 2009. KORAD aims safe and effective management of Low-and-Intermediate Level Waste (LILW) and High Level Waste (HLW).
With great efforts, KORAD completed the construction of the underground silo type disposal facility for LILW in 2014, and started its operation in 2015. The engineered-vault type disposal facility will be also constructed by KORAD. KORAD has also pursued the efforts for safe management of HLW including transportation and interim storage of Spent Nuclear Fuel (SNF).
In particular, KORAD has done its best to develop technology and to enhance trust and confidence in radioactive waste management by R&D, international cooperation and communication with stakeholders.


KEPCO Engineering & Construction Company (KEPCO E&C)

Since the establishment in 1975, KEPCO E&C is a world-class company having the A/E and NSSS Design technology, and developed Korean standard nuclear power plant OPR1000 and APR1400. In 2009, KEPCO E&C participated in the bid to win a nuclear power plant project in Barakah, UAE for the first exportation of Korean-model nuclear power plant, and are performing A/E and NSSS Design. In addition, from 2016, we are participating in the engineering of a SMART (System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor) nuclear power plant, to export to Saudi Arabia. The power plants designed by the engineers of KEPCO E&C has been the foundation of energy independence and economic development of Korea, and we will now contribute to creating energy that will bring happiness to all mankind.

ImPACT “Reduction and Resource Recycling of High-level
Radioactive Wastes through Nuclear Transmutation” (JST)

The high-level radioactive wastes produced when the spent fuel from nuclear power plants is reprocessed must be disposed of through vitrification in glass solid and burial in deep geological layers. As these wastes contain nuclides with a long half-life, public concern remains over the long-term storage of such wastes. There is also a social problem in terms of the difficulty to determine disposal sites for these wastes. The goal of this program is to investigate the nuclear reaction paths for long lived fission products (LLFP), for which disposal in the deep layer has been the only option. The establishment of reasonable nuclear transmutation methods will enable these wastes to be converted into stable nuclides or short-lived ones. We will also make efforts to develop ecological systems for the reuse of the rare metals and other resources that are included in the recovered products.

Established in 1959, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI) is the first science and technology research institute in Korea to be mandated to achieve energy self-reliance through nuclear technology.
KAERI has produced landmark achievements during its 50-year history of nuclear energy development. Such achievements include the self-reliance of the NSSS system design of Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plants, the localization of both CANDU and PWR fuels, the indigenous design of the HANARO research reactor, and the nation’s first ever export of a nuclear energy system to Jordan.

Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS)

Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) is a nuclear safety regulatory expert organization established to protect the national public and environment from harmful effects of radiation caused from the use of nuclear power and radiation.

Nikkeikin Aluminium Core Technology Co., Ltd.

Nikkeikin Aluminium Core Technology (ACT), an aluminum manufacturing company that is 100% owned subsidiary of Nippon Light Metal Holdings, manufactures and sells neutron absorbers MAXUS® and NEXUS-3000™, unprecedented high performance materials that meet customer expectations by combining the knowledge and expertise of each NLM Holdings business division.
MAXUS® is a high-density neutron absorber used in the spent nuclear fuel dry storage and/or transportation casks as well as in the racks of spent nuclear fuel pools, consisting of a sandwich structure with a highly corrosion-resistant aluminum cladding, and boron carbide powder uniformly distributed within a high-purity aluminum matrix. NEXUS-3000™ is an extruded aluminum boron carbide metal matrix composite that has the neutron absorption, strength, and thermal conductivity to meet dry cask needs.

Baltic Scientific Instruments

Baltic Scientific Instruments (BSI) was established in 1994 on the basis of Riga Research and Development Institute for Radio-Isotope Apparatus (RNIIRP, est.1966), which belonged to the Ministry for Atomic Energy of the former Soviet Union. RNIIRP had Union-wide responsibility for the development of instruments for radiation detection and measurement for the atomic energy industry, mining, oil and gas industries, space and military applications.
Since its founding, BSI has specialized in the development and fabrication of devices for spectrometric analysis based on semiconductor and scintillation radiation detectors. BSI products are applied in multiple industries: nuclear power; environmental monitoring; geophysics and the mining industry; medicine and healthcare; research including space sciences; security systems and customs control; and other spheres. To succeed in global markets for radiation detection and analysis equipment BSI has mastered the most demanding quality standards in each market where we have chosen to compete.

ROBATEL Industries

ROBATEL Industries, a French company set up in 1830, has been working for the nuclear industry for more than 60 years.
Design and manufacture of various equipment for the nuclear industry such as:
